The Adventures of Splish & Splash is a series of interactive videos designed to teach kids about pool safety.  Follow along as Splish the cat and Splash the dog enjoy their backyard pool, the neighborhood public pool and then learn to swim!  Go ahead and give it a try by either clicking the link here to the client’s site at www.poolsafely.gov or the screenshot below.

This video was developed for the US Consumer Product Safety Commission in partnership with OmniStudio, a print and web design company here in Washington, DC.

We’re going to SXSW!

Mar 9, 2011   //   by Alex   //   Blog  //  No Comments
We didn’t quite get it together soon enough to go last year but I’m really excited to be going and I’m looking forward to making some great connections and learning as much as I can.  If anyone has any tips about getting the most out of the experience I’d be happy to hear them.  If you’re going to be there too I’d love to meet you for a beer and/or some of the delicious Austin BBQ I’ve heard so much about.

I’ll be tweeting from @dukeandtheduck and @alexherder so send me a tweet or follow along.  If you’re going to be in Austin too, let’s meet up.  It’ll be fun!  If you haven’t seen it and want a quick laugh, this video is a funny guide to how to be “South by South BEST.”

Global Tiger Initiative

Mar 1, 2011   //   by Alex   //   Blog  //  No Comments
Did you know that there are nearly three times as many captive tigers in the US (~10,000) as there are in the wild (~3,500)?  Or that a wild tiger on the black market is worth up to $50,000?  We certainly didn’t, at least not until we started work on this video for the Global Tiger Initiative.

Movin’ on up (to real offices)

Feb 17, 2011   //   by Alex   //   Blog  //  No Comments
6 months ago, we posted some pictures of our home office and while we were really excited to have such a fun and dedicated work environment, the fact is that it had its limitations.  Our seating was getting to be a precious commodity with a now mostly full-time contractor (our first intern) and we found ourselves always going out for meetings because we just didn’t have any place to host them ourselves.

All of that’s in the past now as we’ve just wrapped up our first week working in the David All Group‘s office in downtown DC.  They’ve been a client of ours for around 6 months now and we’ve had a great time working with them.  We hope that the good times keep rolling once they learn of our midday video game habits and penchant for cereal but for now, we’re very excited.

Pictures will be coming soon in a later post.

How Neon Works video picked up for traveling exhibit

Oct 22, 2010   //   by Alex   //   Blog  //  No Comments

This is very exciting!  Our video “How Neon Works” has been given a new lease on life.  Originally conceived as an educational tool for classrooms, we had trouble marketing this animation and while it has long been a favorite of people viewing our portfolio, we’ve never really known what to do with it.  Now it’s going to be seen by thousands of people on tour with the traveling exhibit “In the Glow: The Science Behind the Art of Neon”, currently at the Manitoba Science Museum.  An article in the Winnipeg Free Press describes more about the exhibit and we’ve embedded the video below for your enjoyment.

Oct 5, 2010   //   by Alex   //   Blog  //  No Comments

For the 2010 mid-term elections, The American Enterprise Institute is putting together a video podcast series and they wanted some punchy opening titles to go along with it.  This is the result.
